when we have fun

We had a action packed weekend. We threw ourselves a par-tee to celebrate our engagement with some of our good friends. The adventure began on Friday evening after work. We began at Crate & Barrel where we were buying a friend's birthday present and somehow ended up starting a registry. Which ended up being completely useless because after receiving our magical gun, the salesperson politely asked "When are you getting married," to which we answered "June...2011," this was met with a brief explanation that because most of the merchandise was seasonal, he wouldn't recommend registering for anything other then small appliances. Six small appliance later, we surrendered the gun and admitted our defeat.

Next up were Binny's and Trader Joes, where we purchased a cartload of liquor and beer and then a cartload of frozen appetizers. We felt victorious by nights end because not only had we bought everything for the party but now we wouldn't have to brave North and Clybourn on a Saturday afternoon.

The next day we cleaned and attempted to remove every last cat hair due to our friends husband's allergies. Our thanks to my dad and stepmom's generous donation of a Dyson vacuum. It is truly a magnificent piece of machinery, that makes vacuuming a fascinating but disturbing science experiment.

Later on that evening. People showed up bearing bottles of wine and lovely cards. Drinks were made, Old Fashions were the biggest hit of the evening. There were introductions, some moderate to heavy drinking, conversations and some alleged dancing. It was truly a lovely party. And a nice reminder that our wedding is going to be very similar but I get to wear a white dress and then we get to spend an evening with those that we love the most, I can't wait.

The next morning was fairly painless barring the glaring sunlight that poured into our room. But a sleep mask and few hours of sleep later, we surveyed the kitchen, turned on the Roomba (yet another amazing piece of machinery), grabbed the paper and headed out to brunch. B's friends met us up as we enjoyed a delicious breakfast and bloody mary together.

I forgot to mention that this particular Sunday was honestly, one of the best days that I have had in recent memory. Aimee came to town for the party and Ryan had to study all day, so we had agreed that she could spend the day with us. And that she did. After some post-brunch lounging she burst in and announced that she had already puked that morning and was now ready to do nothing. And that we did, for the next ten hours. It was surreal how truly wonderful it was to spend the day with some of my favorite people and watch t.v., play games, eat some delicious appetizers (that I forgot to make the night before) and end the night watching the Oscars. It was brilliant, Aimee was a huge hit. I thank her for coming down and thank Doug and Nathan for being wonderful friends. I like when we have fun.
